Sustainability

Locally rooted, regeneratively aligned

Ciêla works with local Zambian producers and partners to source dining ingredients, and uses Zambian botanicals across its spa offering. The property sits within Marriott's group-wide Serve 360 framework, which sets standards across waste, energy, water and community impact for affiliated hotels.

This local-sourcing approach aligns naturally with the summit's focus on regenerative agriculture, soil restoration and African food systems — the venue and the programme share the same starting point.

Property-level sustainability disclosures from Ciêla are limited; the summit team will share any updates as they become available.

What guests say

Independently reviewed

The friendliest hotel I have ever stayed at. Without exception, every staff member I encountered greeted me. The breakfast buffet is amazing — the best in Lusaka.

via Tripadvisor

A genuinely impressive estate — the convention centre, golf course and spa under one roof make it a one-of-a-kind venue in southern Africa.

Visa, airport transfer, and what to pack

Travel & visa

Most international visitors need a visa to enter Zambia. The simplest route is the eVisa, applied for online before travel — visa on arrival is also available for many nationalities at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN).

  • Tourist visa (single entry, 30 days)

USD 50 — covers most summit delegates

  • Tourist visa (multiple entry, 90 days)

USD 80 — useful if combining the summit with regional travel

  • Business visa (90 days)

USD 110 — formal business engagements and conferences

  • KAZA UniVisa

USD 50 — combined Zambia + Zimbabwe entry, ideal for a Victoria Falls extension

Once you've registered for the summit, the team can issue a letter of invitation to support your visa application. Processing typically takes 3–5 working days.

Airport transfer

Ciêla is approximately 15 minutes from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) — the same airport that serves central Lusaka, around 25 km away.

Official airport taxi

A regulated taxi rank sits directly outside the terminal — official cars are identifiable by an orange band. Fares to central Lusaka start around ZMW 250 / USD 25; the Ciêla run is shorter and typically less.

Ride-hailing apps

Yango, Bolt, inDrive and Ulendo all operate in Lusaka and at KKIA. Apps generally come in cheaper than rank taxis and provide a fare estimate before you confirm.

Resort transfer

Ciêla can pre-arrange a private airport transfer on request. Easiest to coordinate alongside your room booking — or contact the summit team and we'll co-ordinate with the resort.

Climate at summit dates

Lusaka has two clear seasons. The summit falls in the warm dry season — pack accordingly.

Cool dry season (May–August)

10–22°C

Mostly clear, dry, and cooler than visitors expect. Bring warm layers for evenings — single-digit temperatures are not uncommon overnight.

Hot dry season (September–October)

17–32°C

Sunny, very dry, and increasingly hot. Light layers and sun protection — humidity stays low into early November.

Wet season (November–April)

17–28°C

Warm and humid with afternoon thundershowers, peaking January–February. Bring a light rain jacket; the resort grounds are at their greenest.

Pre & post-summit experiences

Add a day, a weekend, or a safari

Most delegates extend their stay either side of the summit. Ciêla's on-site offering covers a relaxed extra day or two; weekend extensions open up some of southern Africa's best-known wildlife and landscape destinations.

At the resort

18-hole championship golf

A round on the Peter Matkovich-designed estate course — book direct through the resort or with the summit team for grouped bookings.

Spa day

Half- and full-day packages at the Lusaka Spa using locally-sourced Zambian botanicals. Steam room, fitness centre, yoga and beauty services.

Microbrewery & tasting

The resort's on-site brewery runs informal tasting sessions — natural anchor for an evening networking add-on.

Beyond Lusaka

Lilayi Elephant Nursery

Rescue and rewilding centre ~20 km from Lusaka. Morning visits open to the public — a half-day add-on.

Victoria Falls weekend

1-hour flight or ~6-hour drive to Livingstone. The KAZA UniVisa (USD 50) covers both Zambia and Zimbabwe, making the Zim-side viewing trivial to add.

South Luangwa or Lower Zambezi safari

Two of Africa's premier wildlife destinations. Best added as a 3–5 day post-summit extension via charter or scheduled flights.
